Kenneth Hÿtch regularly writes to commission mainly for UK and US orchestras and soloists. Recent large scale commissioned works include:
- Concerti for Violin, Horn, Oboe, Clarinet.
- Clarinet Concerto for Mandy Burvill (Liverpool Philharmonic)
- Octagon Psalms - Voicescape for choir and orchestra (Octagon Singers)
- Suite of Spirituals for 5 octave handbell choir and symphony orchestra (Sonos and Concord Philharmonic, California, USA)
- Song Cycle ‘Seagull’ for soprano and orchestra was performed at the 30th anniversary of the Wymondham Symphony Orchestra. Ian conducted the first 18 years of the orchestra from 1984 – 2002.
- 'Norfolk Scenic Overture' has been performed in California by the Diablo Philharmonic Orchestra.
- Due for premiere in April 2018 is his 'Poem for Prospero' for cello and orchestra.
- His one act, one person opera 'Lady Macbeth is dead' has been performed twice in two years at the Hostry Festival, Norwich.
- Numerous songs, ensemble compositions and choral works for a capella choir.
- In 2017, Ian arranged a 'Pride of Parasols' for choir and orchestra, a suite of songs from Malcolm Arnold’s only musical. Ian had presented the first stage performance of the full work – which included constructing the lost full score from the orchestral parts. He worked with the composer on the orchestration of the Overture.

With over 30 years’ experience of conducting both as resident and guest conductor, Ian has worked with many musical societies, international soloists and artistic directors of international repute. Well known for his inspirational vision and dynamic style, Musical Societies have flourished under his direction. Numerous conducting posts held, including in-house posts as well as freelance appointments, working with international soloists including Denis Matthews, Emma Johnson, Mandy Burvill, Alan Brind, Atara Ben-Tovim, Ian Wallace & Brian Blessed.
Ian conducts on a freelance basis these days, both choral and orchestral, large and small scale, covering rehearsals and concerts at short notice for holiday/illness, or for one-off events and occasions.
